Thanks. I think this was a rather lucky occurance for me, as i had no idea if i was going to get anything at all. Easiest way of getting photos with lightning in them is to set the camera up looking at a good view and let it take a 15sec+ shot every minute. Providing there is a storm going on, you should get a couple of reasonable shots eventually.

well, given that there is lightning striking the ground several times every second somewhere in the world, it shouldn't be too hard to find. i saw a good one today...not happy about flat batteries.
